15 first-year girls visit for Girls' Day

At BPO we believe it is important to be socially involved. This year we participated in the event VHTO Girls’ Day! We welcomed fifteen girls from the first year of the Christelijk Lyceum Delft to our office.

The day started with a tour around the office, to show what a typical working day in the technology sector looks like. Then it was time for tea and snacks, while colleagues Elsa and Nathalie explained an assignment.

The assignment was to design a mobile phone standard in the shape of a chair, made from cart board. We walked the girls through the whole product design process, starting with a program of requirements and wishes. At the end of the workshop, the girls made a 1:1 cart board prototype and presented their results. Lastly, we explained how a product design is optimised and made ready for production by BPO.

We noticed that some girls were hesitant about working in the technical sector and some were completely enthusiastic. Both are fine of course, and we hope that we helped them have better insight to choose a fitting career path.

Why is Girls’ Day so important?

On Girls’ Day 2025, girls throughout the country visited companies in the technology and IT sector. In this way, they become acquainted with these fields in an accessible way, which increases the chance that they will later choose a career in this sector. Girls and women are still underrepresented in technical training and professions. Only 17% of employees in science, technology and IT are women.”
