

3brothers has designed a mop bucket with a clip-on wringer. This product must function reliably in daily use and, among other things, be able to withstand the pushing force that occurs when wringing out the mop.
BPO performed FEM analyses to determine how the bucket’s construction responds to the expected loads. Based on these analyses, BPO advised 3brothers on specific detail adjustments to further optimise the design.
The mop bucket will be used for cleaning and filled with (hot) water. The bucket can be used with or without the wringer. When the bucket is carried, it should not deform too much and the handle should not come loose. Even if the bucket accidentally bumps into an object such as a table, the bucket must not undergo permanent deformation and the handle must remain clicked into the hinge point. When wringing out the mop, the wringer should not bend too much or even bend permanently or break.

In consultation with 3brothers, BPO drew up the requirements that the bucket will have to meet in practice. For example, the simulations took into account a material temperature that can rise to 60 °C for the bucket as a result of hot water. The bucket with a wringer can be filled with 7 litres of water, while without a wringer it must be able to carry up to 10 litres of water.

Based on the simulation results for the various load situations, it was recommended, among other things, to adjust the dimensions and construction around the hinge point of the handle. Ribs were also added to the top of the handle to reduce deflection. A variable rib height has been applied to the front of the wringer. This takes into account the stackability of the wringers and the fit of a stack of wringers in the top bucket during transport and storage.
The mop bucket is now on the market and can be purchased from a well-known retailer. With their many years of experience in plastics production, 3brothers creates reliable and affordable products.
