On behalf of Lankhorst Mouldings, BPO has optimised a steel reinforced plastic RollStop system. The core business of Lankhorst Mouldings Sneek (The Netherlands) is the development and production of large and/or complex plastic parts with high wall thickness.
Detailled FEM analyses were used to optimise Lakhorst’s
KLP® RollStops System. These RollStops are used to store steel coils with a diameter ranging from 680 to 2500 mm, stacked up to 3 high.
The load produced by these coils is enormous: The maximum compression stress exerted on 4 coils is equal to 100 tons. Both the rail parts, with their moulded in steel bars, as well as the rollstops themselves were analysed for their long term stability and durability.
De optimisation performed by BPO has resulted in a durable, flexible, efficient and easy to use system that can be installed without additional tools. On top of that it has an extremely long lifespan. It shows that even for extreme performances a solution in plastic can be found.
