To ensure that the tank still offers sufficient strength and stiffness with this enormous weight, BPO has carried out FEM calculations on this product. The wall thickness can easily be varied because it is a hollow, rotomoulded product. The wall thickness is determined by the amount of plastic that is introduced into the mould during production.
Kverneland Group is an originally Norwegian company that develops and produces agricultural implements and services, as well as electronic solutions and digital services. It is now owned by the Japanese Kubota and various agricultural machines are supplied under the brand names Kverneland, Vicon and Kubota.
In order to comply with increasingly strict legislation and to use production resources as efficiently as possible, more and more farmers are using intelligent agricultural solutions. Software control of exactly the right amounts of spraying agent sprayed on the land is becoming increasingly important. Field sprayers are therefore often used to spray fields correctly. A trailed field sprayer is a machine that is attached to the tractor and drives behind the tractor. A spray boom is mounted at the rear of this machine, which can be folded out to a width of up to 40 meters. This means that a section of field 40 meters wide can be sprayed in one pass.
In order to be able to work the land as efficiently as possible and therefore have to drive back and forth as little as possible to fill new spraying agent, there is a need for very large tanks to carry sufficient agent and clean water. To this end, Kverneland has developed a tank with a capacity of 7600 liters. In the case of filling a medium with relatively high density, this means that there can be almost 10 tons of weight in this tank.
Before a mould was made, FEM calculations were used to determine the wall thickness of the product. The weak spots in the design were also identified, where reinforcements could best be applied and what the possible lifespan of the product would be. Some local adjustments have made the product more robust, allowing the total wall thickness to be reduced slightly. This means the tank has been optimised for use, without the need for expensive adjustments to the mould.
The tank is successfully used on the top model of trailed field sprayers, the Kverneland iXtrack T6. A good example of the combination of software-driven precision agriculture with effective technical design of the hardware, with the know-how of BPO.
